At the offices of Dr. Douglas Ayre, we strive to provide comprehensive, exceptional eye care for the whole family. The doctors at Eyecare of Great Bend and Larned Eye Health recommend annual medical eye examinations to not only help you see as clearly as possible but, more importantly, to maintain the health of your eyes and your vision for years to come.
Some eye diseases cause symptoms that alert you that something is wrong— symptoms such as blurred vision, eye pain, red eyes, floaters, or flashing lights. Unfortunately, there are also serious, vision-threatening problems that have no warning signs. Proper eye care and medical evaluation of your eyes can help avoid preventable loss of vision in many of these cases. Because a thorough eye examination also allows your doctor to directly view your blood vessels (vessels may be seen in the retina as noted in the picture above), annual eye exams can also help detect diabetes, hypertension, and other important treatable medical conditions.

EYE HEALTH CONSULTATION
During an eye exam at Central Kansas Eyecare, we will ask you questions about any symptoms you are experiencing, medications your are currently taking, any vision difficulties, your work environment, and your overall health. Family history and previous eye or vision conditions will also be discussed during this part of the examination. We will consider this information when determining any treatments or recommendations.
Regular vision testing and evaluations ensure that you always have the clearest vision possible. We measure how each eye is seeing by using state-of-the-art instruments. Depending on the results of your vision test, we may prescribe glasses or contact lenses. We are also happy to answer any questions you may have about procedures that correct vision without glasses such as LASIK.
EYE FUNCTION TESTING
Healthy vision is much more than just seeing 20/20! In addition to testing vision, our eye health and vision examination includes the evaluation of your binocular vision function, or how your eyes work together as a team. We will perform screening tests to evaluate your depth perception, color vision, eye muscle function, and responsiveness to light. In the event one of the screening tests reveals a deficiency in any of these areas, more in-depth testing may be recommended.
Perhaps the most important part of your evaluation will be the assessment of your eye health. At the offices of Dr. Doug Ayre, we pride ourselves on not only helping you see your best, but also protecting the future of your vision and offering the highest quality, patient-centered, medical eye care. For your comfort, and to provide you the best possible eye care, we have the most advanced equipment. At the completion of your exam, your doctor will make sure to take time to summarize the exam findings, provide a treatment plan when needed, and answer your questions.
